Stag Glossary
• Stag: A male who attends a social gathering unaccompanied by woman. It is also used specifically for a would be groom.
• Bachelor Night: It is also referred as stag night. It is a night celebrated by stag in close company of his male friends before marriage.
• Stag Weekend: It refers to exclusive weekend packages offered by hotels, resorts and clubs to stags The main idea is that stag should celebrate the start of new innings of his life in a grand style.
• Stag do: It refers to stag party.
• Bestman: He is usually the closest friend of stag who organizes the stag party and delivers speech (that is known as bestman speech) in honour of his friend.
• Bestman speech: It is a speech given by a close aide of stag who organises the stag party. The speech usually consists of interesting anecdotes from stag’s life and is marked with best wishes for his new innings as a married man.
• Fiancé: An engaged man who is going to get married.
• Groom: A man on his wedding day or just or after the event.
• Attendant: Apart from bestman the other aides of stag that stand for the church service are called as attendants.
• Usher: He looks after the seating arrangement of people in church during wedding.
• Attendant Gift: Gift given by stag or hen to their aides as a token of care and appreciation for making the whole affair memorable.
• Toast: It is an act of raising glasses at a gathering and drinking together in honour of a person or thing. In the stag party ,it is usually the bestman who toasts for the stag.
• Engagement: It refers to formal agreement between man and woman to get married.
• Engagement ring: A ring that is put in the finger of bride to solemnise engagement.
• Fiancée: An engaged woman who is going to get married.
• Bride: A woman on her day of marriage or just or after the event.
• Matron of Honour: A married woman who stands by the bride's side.
• Bridal Gifts: Bridal Gifts or bridesmaids gifts are traditionally given by the bride to her bridesmaids and maid of honour..
• Bridesmaid: She is friend of bride and offer church service.
• Party: A social gathering organized for pleasure or amusement.
• Gift: It is a token of care, warmth, affection and friendship usually given on social occasions by one party to another. It is mostly in form of tangible item.
• Trousseau: The personal possessions of a bride usually including clothes, accessories, and household linens and wares.
• Bridal accessories: It includes items like her jewellery, purse bags etc.
• Wedding gown: It is usually a white coloured dress worn by bride on her wedding day.
• Church: It is a building used for public Christian worship. It is also used for holding ceremonies like baptisation and marriage.
• Priest: Ordained person from Christian community to perform certain rights and administer certain sacraments like holding marriages.
